Kalshi VS Robinhood

What this directory records about each, side by side: pricing tier and the fee note each points to, who can open an account, which markets and platforms each covers. Nothing here is scored or estimated — every cell is a field of the two tool records.

First recorded difference that usually settles it: eligibility — Kalshi records Individuals aged 18 or older who pass identity and document verification at signup, which Kalshi says it runs to meet CFTC identity rules. Kalshi now takes members from many countries as well as the US; international eligibility is bounded by the restricted jurisdictions in Section VI of the Member Agreement, and Kalshi puts the legality question on the member, saying it gives no individual legal or eligibility advice. Federal DCM status does not settle the state question: sports, election and entertainment contracts are geofenced for customers in Nevada (Nevada Gaming Control Board agreement, geofencing due 12 August 2026), Washington (state court order, August 2026) and Michigan, with litigation live in several other states. Sources: Kalshi Help Center, 'Signing Up as an Individual' (article dated 10 March 2026) and 'Can I trade on Kalshi from outside the United States?' (20 March 2026); Kalshi Member Agreement, Section VI; CFTC Release 8302-20 designating KalshiEX LLC; Nevada GCB release, 24 July 2026; CoinDesk, 21 August 2026. Checked 2026-10-21; Robinhood records US residents aged 18 or older, with an individual Robinhood brokerage account and a separately approved Robinhood Derivatives account, applied for inside the app. Event contracts are not available in all states: Maryland and Nevada residents cannot trade sports event contracts, and Michigan residents could not open new sports event contracts as of 9 September 2026. Robinhood says further state restrictions may apply and that the app holds the current list. Source: Robinhood Help Center, 'Event contracts overview', checked 2026-10-21. This page does not name a winner. The fee notes below carry the formulas, and what a given trade costs depends on that formula, the contract price and how many contracts are traded — not on the pricing tier.

This page does not model what a trade costs, how much liquidity sits behind a market, or how many markets are open today. Those numbers change daily and belong to the venues; each pricing note below names the document it came from and the date it was read.

Pricing notes (as recorded)Free to sign up. Trading fee = round up(0.07 x contracts x price x (1-price)), which is $0.07-$1.75 per 100 contracts. No settlement fee on simple yes/no. Some series charge maker fees. Verified 2026-10-21 against Kalshi's fee schedule.Commission has been probability-weighted since 1 June 2026: k x p x (1 - p) x contracts, where k is 10% without Robinhood Gold or 5% with Gold (a $5 monthly subscription). Rounded up to the nearest $0.01 per trade and capped at $0.01 per contract, so the commission peaks near 50c and nearly vanishes at 1c and 99c. Partner exchanges charge their own fee on top, up to about $0.01 per contract, on both opening and closing trades. Source: Robinhood Help Center, 'Event contracts overview', checked 2026-10-21.

A dash means this directory holds no entry for that field yet — not that the venue has no such rule. The records are written and dated by hand, not scraped, and each pricing note names its own source.

Robinhood

Regulated US event contracts from Robinhood Derivatives, traded in the mobile app.

Robinhood sells binary Yes/No event contracts through Robinhood Derivatives, LLC, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant that routes orders to CFTC-regulated exchanges: KalshiEX, ForecastEx, Rothera Exchange and Clearing, and the North American Derivatives Exchange, plus a selection of football contracts routed to Crypto.com and OG.com's exchange since 8 September 2026. The prediction markets hub opened on 17 March 2025 with a fed funds contract and the college basketball tournaments; pro and college football arrived on 19 August 2025. Contracts now span sports, politics and elections, economics and financial data, crypto, climate and weather, commodities and entertainment. Trading is mobile-app only and US-only, and needs a separately approved derivatives account.

Good for
  • › Trading sports, election and economics contracts inside a US brokerage account you already use
  • › Cheap trades at the price extremes: the probability-weighted commission shrinks toward 1c and 99c
  • › Anyone who wants CFTC-regulated event contracts in USD without a crypto wallet or gas fees
Not good for
  • – Automation: no event-contract API is published
  • – Desktop trading: the web version is view-only and Robinhood Legend does not carry event contracts
  • – Order-book analysis: the app shows prices and volume, not full market depth
  • – Traders outside the US
Eligibility

US residents aged 18 or older, with an individual Robinhood brokerage account and a separately approved Robinhood Derivatives account, applied for inside the app. Event contracts are not available in all states: Maryland and Nevada residents cannot trade sports event contracts, and Michigan residents could not open new sports event contracts as of 9 September 2026.
